In ancient China and Korea, people have been using deer antler velvet to remedy various ailments, along with enhancing several physical, and even sexual aspects. In the latter country, it has been around for 2,000 years and people still believe its effects and benefits, which is the reason why it has lasted this long. So, according to Chinese and Korean culture, what exactly is it used for?

As a growth tonic for children

In Chinese and Korean medicine, the upper part of the antler velvet, called the wax piece, is used as a growth tonic, especially for children. Although there is little scientific evidence that suggests this, antler velvet contains certain nutrients, like protein and calcium, which are essential in the physical growth and development of children. This may not be the most ideal food supplement to give your kids, it may still work out well: a lot Chinese and South Koreans are gifted athletes and are really tall.

As a way to enhance libido

In ancient China and Korea, the lack of libido and erectile dysfunction in men is presumably a horrible problem that ancient doctors devised numerous cures and remedies to counter these. The medicine that stood out is of course, deer antler velvet. Traditional Chinese doctors argue that antler velvet is used as a balancing agent for the endocrine system and to treat penile erection dysfunction. They also claim that it can be used to treat enlarged prostate glands, and even eliminate the root cause of watery semen.

Arthritis and joint inflammation

Traditional medicine has always used antler velvet as a means to treat arthritis and its complications. This has a scientific bearing to it, given that this product contains a good amount of glucosamine and chondroitin, compounds that play a vital role on joint strength, growth and development. This in turn makes it help in countering the effects of arthritis: it repairs the damage brought about by the condition before it gets worse. Aside from which, it also contains prostaglandins, hormones that play an important role in reducing inflammation in the human body.

Blood-related complications

Aside from the above mentioned, antler velvet is also being used to treat complications relating to the blood, like anemia, hypertension and cholesterol problems. Although its effects to treat these diseases have only been discovered recently, these effects might have manifested themselves back in the day, giving people the impression that it is an effective health tonic.

Regardless if taken in traditionally through teas or via capsule or sprays, antler velvet products are certainly something you'd want to have in your system, given their numerous benefits.
